Privacy Policy

Clipus is a desktop application. Almost everything it does — downloading, transcribing, clipping, captioning, and exporting — happens locally on your computer. This page explains the few things that do involve a network call.
What Clipus does not collect
Clipus does not upload your video files, audio, transcripts, or exported clips to any server we operate. There is no Clipus cloud — rendering happens on your machine with ffmpeg, and offline transcription happens on your machine with Whisper.
We do not run analytics or telemetry of any kind. We have no dashboard showing how you use the app, what you clip, or how often you open it.
What does leave your computer
If you enable a cloud AI provider (OpenAI or Groq) for transcription or highlight-finding, the relevant audio or transcript text is sent directly from your computer to that provider, using the API key you supplied. We never see this data — it does not pass through any server of ours.
License activation and renewal checks send your license key and a hardware identifier to Gumroad's License Verify API, so Gumroad can confirm your license is valid and enforce the one-device-per-license limit. This is the only network call tied to a Clipus-specific service.
If you use the optional stock b-roll search (Pexels/Pixabay), your search query is sent to whichever provider you've configured, using your own API key.
API keys and credentials
Any API keys you enter in Settings (OpenAI, Groq, Pexels, Pixabay) are stored locally on your device. They are never transmitted to us and are only ever sent directly to the provider they belong to, to authenticate your own requests.
Local license data
To enforce trial limits and prevent uninstall-and-reinstall abuse, Clipus stores a hardware-anchored trial record in your app data folder and, on Windows, the registry. This data stays on your device and is only used to compute your remaining trial period.
Third-party services you configure
OpenAI, Groq, Pexels, and Pixabay are independent companies with their own privacy policies governing any data you send them directly through Clipus. We recommend reviewing those policies if you enable cloud features.
Children's privacy
Clipus is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under the age of 13.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of Clipus after a change means you accept the revised policy.
